About

Following years of tireless fundraising efforts for the Velindre Cancer Trust, Rhod Gilbert has recently shared that he is currently being supported by them.

Inspired by his great work, dedication and generosity, a number of stand-up comedy promoters in South Wales have decided to come together to help pick up the mantle while Rhod is recovering. Under the name Wales Stands Up, shows will take place between 10th-16th October across the whole region.

standupforcomedy are pleased to announce that we will be hosting two special editions of The Confessional at Chapel 1877 on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th October with proceeds from ticket sales going towards the fund.

Follow the WalesStandsUp Facebook page for announcements about shows across the South Wales region and if you are unable to make it to the show on the night or if you missed out on getting tickets, then you are welcome to donate directly via this link.

OUR LINE UP!

This is going to be a fast-paced showcase of six of the most exciting acts around, featuring:

HARRIET DYER

Fresh from a hugely successful month at the Edinburgh Fringe where she was awarded the Neurodiversity Represention award, Harriet is popping along to The Confessional in the middle of a UK tour with her massively acclaimed show Trigger Warning. She has appeared on the Russell Howard Comedy Hour and has been described as '...insightful, extraordinary, unique, peerless...' (4Extra Stands Up). We are very lucky to have Harriet join us as she is on the brink of national stardom!

SIMON EMANUEL

One of the hardest working acts on the circuit, Simon is a Welsh Unsigned Stand-Up Awards winner. His set is packed with brilliant ideas and hilarious scenarios, delivered in a breathtaking, dazzling and fast-paced flash. Bring Ventolin! 'A one-man comedy scene' (WalesOnline).

FIRUZ OZARI

A standupforcomedy.co.uk favourite, and one of the fastest rising voices in stand-up right now, Firuz was crowned Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year in March this year. A few days later he was delighting the audience at our sell-out launch show in April. We are delighted to have Firuz back with us!

KRIS DAVIES

Kris is a circuit favourite who will be bringing his unique blend of warmth and musicality to the line-up on the night. Kris has been a finalist in the Red Planet Prize, Stand Up For Cider and a semi finalist in last year's British Comedian of the Year. He has been described as 'A comic who can play every type of room, and play them all brilliantly' (Mark Olver) with 'warmth, wit and musical genius.' (Torquay Comedy Club).

GILLY WEBB

Gilly is returning to The Confessional, having entertained our brilliant audience in support of Harriet Kemsley in June this year. Gilly plies her very own hilarious brand of cheeky! She might make you blush, and she will definitely make you howl! Totally fruity, with a massive helping of laughs!

CAM DAVIES

A Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama graduate, Cam is a writer and actor, and he has been performng stand-up since 2011. He competed in the BBC New Comedy Awards at a packed-out Cardiff Glee Club, and was a semi finalist in the Welsh Unsigned Stand-Up Awards. Having made waves on both the South Wales and London circuits with his warm conversational brand of stand-up, we are delighted to introduce him to our amazing audience!

RESIDENT MC: COL HOWARTH

'Col is the perfect host. Great, friendly and funny' Barbara Nice

'Witty and intelligent, hilarious and cheeky with proper laugh out loud gags' TheFringeReview
